EV charging stations in Prince Edward Island

48 charging locations and 90 ports across 1 city and towns, 2 of them DC fast.

Charging in Prince Edward Island

Prince Edward Island's charging is essentially all in and around Charlottetown, which accounts for the province's entire listed count. On an island this small that is less limiting than it sounds, since almost everywhere is within an easy drive of the capital.

The catch is the mix: this is a Level 2 island. Only a couple of ports are DC fast, so treat charging here as something you do while you eat, sleep or sightsee rather than a ten minute stop. ChargePoint and flo run most of the locations, with Sun Country Highway and Tesla also present. Plan to arrive on the island with enough range to reach wherever you're staying.

On the road

Highway 1, the Trans-Canada, runs from the Confederation Bridge at Borden-Carleton through Charlottetown and east to the Wood Islands ferry. Route 2 crosses the island from Souris to Tignish. Distances are short by Canadian standards, a few hours end to end, which matters because there is effectively no fast charging along these routes to fall back on.

Plugs and payment

J1772 is what you'll use most, since nearly everything here is Level 2. CCS1 covers the very few DC fast ports, and NACS may show up at newer sites. Posts have the cable attached, but a portable cord for an ordinary outlet at your accommodation is worth having. Set up network apps before you cross the bridge; options are limited if one account fails.

Three things to know

  • Arrive with range in hand. Fast charging is almost nonexistent, so overnight Level 2 is the real plan.
  • Book accommodation with a charger where you can; it is the most dependable charging on the island.
  • Summer tourist season crowds Charlottetown parking, charging bays included, so allow extra time.
