Privacy policy

This page explains what data findchargingstations.com collects, why, for how long, and how you can exercise your rights under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA and similar laws.

Who is responsible

The data controller is the operator of findchargingstations.com. For any request about your data, write to privacy@findchargingstations.com or use the contact page.

What we collect

The site needs no registration. The data that may be processed while you browse is:

  • Technical data: IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, time of visit. Collected by the servers that host the site and by the analytics tools described below.
  • Approximate location: only if you use the locate button, your browser asks permission to share your position. It is used to centre the map and is not stored on our servers.
  • Preferences: selected filters, last city, cookie consent and dismissed banners, stored in your browser.
  • What you send us: if you email us, we process your address and message to reply.

Third-party services

  • Mapbox provides the maps. When the map loads, your browser requests map tiles from Mapbox servers, which receive your IP address. Mapbox privacy policy.
  • Open Charge Map provides charger data. Requests go from your browser and include the map area you are viewing. Open Charge Map privacy policy.
  • PostHog (EU-hosted) measures use of the site in aggregate and records technical errors. It runs only with your consent. PostHog privacy policy.
  • Google AdSense and Google Ad Manager serve the ads that fund the site. With your consent Google may use cookies and identifiers to personalise ads; without it you see non-personalised ads. How Google uses data from partner sites.
  • Google Funding Choices runs the consent banner and stores your choice.

Cookies

Cookies and similar technologies are described in the cookie policy, including how to change your consent at any time.

Retention

  • Server logs: up to 30 days.
  • Analytics data: up to 12 months, aggregated or pseudonymised.
  • Contact emails: as long as needed to handle the request, at most 24 months.
  • Cookies: for the lifetimes listed in the cookie policy.

International transfers

Some providers (Mapbox, Google) may process data in the United States. Transfers rely on the EU-US and UK-US Data Privacy Frameworks or on standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

You can ask at any time for access to your data, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, and object to processing based on legitimate interest. You can withdraw cookie consent from the "manage consent" link on the cookie policy. Residents of the EU and UK may complain to their data protection authority; California residents have the rights set out in the CCPA, including the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, which you exercise through the same consent banner. We do not knowingly sell personal information.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 16 and does not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

This policy may be updated. The date at the top shows the latest revision.
