EV charging stations in Quebec

11,090 charging locations and 28,099 ports across 67 cities and towns, 2,503 of them DC fast.

Charging in Quebec

Quebec has more charging locations than any other province by a wide margin, and the density in Montreal is unusual: boroughs like Rosemont and Villeray each carry hundreds of locations on their own, and Laval, Quebec City, Gatineau, Longueuil and Lévis are all well covered too.

Almost all of it is Level 2. Under one port in ten is DC fast, which is the tradeoff behind that huge total: this is a network built for topping up where you park, not for quick highway stops. Circuit Electrique runs the most locations, with flo, ChargePoint, Tesla and SWTCH behind it. Plan road trips around the fast sites specifically rather than the location count.

On the road

Autoroutes 20 and 40 run either side of the St Lawrence between Montreal and Quebec City and are the routes to plan fast charging around. Autoroute 15 heads north into the Laurentians and south to the United States border, and Autoroute 55 links Trois-Rivières with Sherbrooke and the Eastern Townships. Route 138 follows the north shore a long way past Quebec City with far thinner coverage.

Plugs and payment

J1772 covers Level 2, CCS1 is the main DC fast plug, and NACS is spreading at newer sites. CHAdeMO remains on some older units. Street and lot posts have the cable attached; what you carry is a portable cord for ordinary outlets and any adapter your car needs. Many chargers accept tap to pay, though a network app or card is still worth having.

Three things to know

  • Winters are long and cold; expect real range loss and slower fast charging from December into March.
  • With so few fast ports relative to total sites, filter for DC fast before routing a long drive.
  • Charger listings and screens are often in French, so learn a few terms like borne de recharge.
