1,820 charging locations and 6,061 ports across 53 cities and towns, 1,162 of them DC fast.

Charging in Georgia

Georgia's charging is concentrated inside the Atlanta metro. The city itself accounts for the largest share by far, and the ring of suburbs around it adds a great deal more, with Sandy Springs alone holding more locations than any other city in the state outside Atlanta.

Outside that core the picture thins quickly. Athens, Savannah and Columbus each carry a few dozen locations, and Macon and Albany rather fewer. Most of what you will find is Level 2 sitting in garages, hotels and shopping centers, with roughly one port in five capable of DC fast charging. ChargePoint and Blink Charging run the largest share of sites, alongside Tesla, Shell Recharge Solutions and SemaConnect.

On the road

Almost every long trip in Georgia runs on I-75 or I-85, which meet in Atlanta, or on I-20 crossing east to west through the city. Those three carry the most traffic and pass through the best-covered towns. I-16 from Macon to Savannah and I-95 down the coast run through thinner country, so treat the stretch between Macon and the coast as a gap to plan around rather than improvise through.

Plugs and payment

J1772 is standard on Level 2 posts here, and DC fast sites mix CCS1 with NACS as Tesla stalls open to other cars. Newer builds increasingly carry both cables. CHAdeMO is legacy and shrinking. Public units come with the cable attached, so what you carry is an adapter for the other fast standard and a mobile connector for hotels that only offer an outlet.

Three things to know

  • Atlanta traffic is unpredictable, so charge before you enter the perimeter rather than counting on a stall mid-commute.
  • Summer heat means constant air conditioning, which cuts range on long drives through south Georgia.
  • South Fulton shows no locations in our data, so plan around neighboring Atlanta or Sandy Springs stops.
