EV charging stations in Idaho
154 charging locations and 486 ports across 16 cities and towns, 169 of them DC fast.
Charging in Idaho
Idaho's charging is modest and concentrated around Boise, which has roughly forty-five locations, with Meridian adding around twenty more. After that the numbers drop into low double figures: Coeur d'Alene, Pocatello, Idaho Falls and Twin Falls sit in that range, Caldwell and Lewiston just under it, and Nampa is lighter than its size implies.
About a third of the state's ports are DC fast, and the rest is Level 2 at hotels, offices and town parking. Blink Charging has the most locations here, unusually, ahead of ChargePoint and Tesla, with EV Connect and SemaConnect also present. The panhandle and the southeast function almost as separate networks from the Treasure Valley, with a lot of empty highway in between.
On the road
I-84 along the Snake River Plain is the workhorse, running from the Oregon line through Boise and Twin Falls before dropping south into Utah. I-86 branches off it to Pocatello, where I-15 carries you north to Idaho Falls or south toward Salt Lake. Up in the panhandle, I-90 through Coeur d'Alene is well served. The long north-south link on US 95 is the hard one: mountainous, slow and short of chargers for much of its length.
Plugs and payment
J1772 on Level 2, which is nearly always cable-attached. DC fast sites are CCS1 with Tesla connectors alongside, and NACS is arriving on newer stalls, so carry the adapter your car needs. CHAdeMO is legacy. Contactless payment is common in Boise and along I-84, less so in the panhandle and rural south, so keep the apps set up.
Three things to know
- Treat the drive between the panhandle and southern Idaho as a sparse route and plan charging town by town.
- Summer highs in the Snake River Plain increase consumption; charge in the cooler morning where the schedule allows.
- Mountain highways cost more energy than flat miles, so size your buffer on elevation gain rather than distance.
