EV charging stations in New Hampshire
166 charging locations and 536 ports across 13 cities and towns, 198 of them DC fast.
Charging in New Hampshire
New Hampshire concentrates its charging in the Merrimack Valley and along the short seacoast. Manchester leads, with Salem, Concord, Dover, Nashua and Keene behind it, and most other towns holding only a handful of locations. The overall stock is small, and once you leave the southern corridors for the North Country the gaps between sites get long.
What the state does well is speed. More than a third of its ports are DC fast, one of the higher ratios in New England, so a short stop often does real work. ChargePoint and Tesla run the most locations, with AmpUp, Blink Charging and EV Connect filling in around them.
On the road
I-93 does most of the work, climbing from the Massachusetts line through Manchester and Concord and on through Franconia Notch into the White Mountains. I-95 clips the seacoast near Portsmouth, and I-89 runs northwest toward the Vermont border. Fast charging clusters on the southern half of I-93 and around the seacoast. North of the notches, plan around towns and arrive with margin.
Plugs and payment
Level 2 is J1772 and the fast sites are CCS1 and NACS, with CHAdeMO surviving at a few older installations. Bring a cable, since untethered posts are the norm in shopping plazas and municipal lots. Newer fast chargers usually take a contactless tap, while older destination units expect the network app or an RFID card.
Three things to know
- Mountain driving and cold air eat range fast, so leave the valley with more charge than the route suggests.
- Ski-season parking fills early, so check that a resort location is public before counting on it.
- Retail plazas along the southern highways are the reliable stops, so build longer trips around those exits.
